Drama

GCA Middle School and High School students have several opportunities to express their creativity through speech and drama classes, competitions, and performances.

CLASSES

7th and 8th grade students will participate in a 9-week Speech & Drama Class, and High School students may choose to take Drama or Speech classes, for a whole semester, that count as a Fine Arts Elective. The High School Drama Class, along with other student volunteers, helps with various GCA productions and chapel services, and they have participated in the Fine Arts Festival and the DYS (Department of Youth Services) Prison Ministry.

PERFORMANCES AND COMPETITIONS

Students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to participate in the annual Fall Talent Show. It is always amazing to see the students using the gifts that God has given them, in such creative ways, to bless and entertain those in attendance.

In March, many of our Middle School and High School students compete in the ACSI Speech Meet. The MS meet is held in Middletown, OH and includes the following categorites: Dramatic and Humorous Reading, Dramatic and Humorous Costumed Monologue, Dramatic and Humorous Poetry, Original (Poem or Essay), Puppets, Scripture Reading, and Visual Aid. The High School competition takes place at Mount Vernon University and includes the following categories: Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation, Original (Poem or Essay), Expository w/ Visual Aids, Devotional Homiletics, Extemporaneous, Impromptu, Reader's Theatre, Individual Acting, Duet Acting, TV News Team, Bible Reading, and Kiddie Literature.

One of the highlights of each school year is the annual Spring Play. Auditions are held for grades 7-12, and many students enjoy working behind the scenes, as well. In 2012, GCA students put on a fantastic perfomance of "PILGRIM", a musical production of John Bunyun's classic book, "The Pilgrim's Progress." Last year, an original musical/drama entitled, "The Banquet" written by senior, Karlos Smith, and Mrs. Karen Hartje was staged.
